Metro Detroit Charter Center, an association of high‐performing public charter schools, believes that public school choice, academic quality and public transparency are the cornerstones to transforming the Detroit’s public school system so that all families have access to a high quality school, be it a public charter school or a traditional district school. Metro Detroit Charter Center represents supports and connects charter schools that commit to holding themselves accountable to high standards of academic performance, fiscal management and transparency in operations and public governance.In 2014, in the wake of a sharp backlash against the public charter schools movement partially fueled by publicized stories involving misuse of funds by some charter schools, a group of charter leaders formed MDCC. With the commitment to hold themselves accountable to high‐quality academic standards and the highest levels of public transparency, they established the long‐term goal of expanding that commitment to all charter schools in the City. In addition, Metro Detroit Charter Center has partnered with leading education reformers, to support collective efforts.
